European project ICARUS

The European R&D project ICARUS (Integrated Components for Assisted Rescue and Unmanned Search operations) is a project co-financed by the 7th Framework Program of the European Union.

The aim of the project is to develop integrated solutions for search and rescue teams responding to disasters such as the earthquakes in Haiti and Italy or the tsunami in Japan. Unmanned vehicles (land, air and sea) will be equipped with sensors to detect victims that will facilitate rescue work.

The project, led by the Royal Military Academy of Belgium, has a budget of 17.5 million euros and is made up of a consortium of European companies and institutes, NATO and the Portuguese Navy.
