The European Project of I+D ICARUS (Integrated Components for Assisted Rescue and Unmanned Search operations), co-financed by the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union.

The project aims is to develop integrated solutions for search and rescue teams that act after disasters, such as earthquakes in Haiti and Italy, or the tsunami in Japan. Unmanned vehicles (land, air and sea) will be equipped with sensors to detect victims that will facilitate the work of rescue.

The project, led by the Royal Military Academy of Belgium, has a budget of 17.5 million euros and is composed of a consortium of companies and institutes in Europe, NATO and the Portuguese Navy.
